Telling my story

My account of what ten weeks of talking to strangers and writing their stories taught me about rejection, confidence, and myself!

When I joined GripTape, I did not know what to expect. My project was based on listening to people's stories. Looking back, I can say it became one of the best learning experiences for me.

At first, I was scared, because I had never approached a stranger to start a conversation. I kept thinking, "What if they don't answer me?" But I knew I had to try if I wanted to complete my project.

One experience from this journey I will never forget. I went up to a couple and politely started talking to them. Before I could explain my project, they said, "Stop, we are not interested," and walked away. Around 10 to 15 people were sitting nearby and saw everything. I felt embarrassed and thought maybe I should stop asking people. But a few moments later, another person came up and said, "I can share my opinion." That one conversation gave me my confidence back. It taught me that not everyone will say yes, and that's okay. If one person refuses, someone else might be happy to help.

As I continued my project, I met many different people. Every person had a different story, and I learned something from each one. Their stories became the heart of my project. Without their kindness and willingness to share, I could not have completed it.

These 10 weeks changed me a lot. I gained confidence and courage. Earlier, I would hesitate before talking to new people; now I can start conversations much more easily. I also started thinking differently. Instead of being afraid to try new things, I now enjoy meeting new people and having new experiences.

My champion also played an important role in this journey. Whenever I had doubts or felt confused, they encouraged me and reminded me to keep going. Their support helped me believe in myself.

GripTape was not just about finishing a project. It helped me grow as a person. After these 10 weeks, I started taking on more projects because I wanted to keep learning new things. This journey taught me that real growth begins when we step out of our comfort zone. I will always be thankful for this experience, because it made me more confident and helped me believe in myself.
